Read what gsm measures
No. Gsm describes mass per unit area. A micrometre thickness specification describes a different physical property. My Globel TTR001 and Till Roll Warehouse 102 both mention 58 gsm,but that alone does not establish their caliper or an exact printer’s permitted paper-thickness match.
Keep the manual thickness field separate
The current Epson manual route notes a revision to paper-thickness values. That makes it especially important not to import an older range from a copied product recommendation or assume that 58 gsm maps to a single thickness number. No paper density or compressibility model was verified here.
Do not infer performance from weight
A heavier gsm is not a measured finding of sharper print, greater durability or a better cutter result. Nor can it explain the difference between the 80 m and 68.8 m declarations by itself. This site has performed no weight, thickness, contrast or cutter testing.
Request the missing actual field
If caliper is required, ask the supplier for the exact paper specification and tolerance tied to the selected code. Compare it with the current manual’s field. Keep a missing caliper unknown in the purchase note instead of filling it with a conversion guessed from a familiar paper type.
Apply the field to a purchase
If a supplier later provides caliper in micrometres, compare the actual stated tolerance with the current manual. Keep the 58 gsmline too,as a different field, rather than replacing it with a supposed equivalent.
